Twinsie Tuesday - Fugly Polish (China Glaze Trendsetter)

Good morning! I hope that everyone had a fantastic Labor Day weekend! I was on the go all weekend and I have yet to catch up on blogs and my internet gossip sites. Today's theme was a fugly polish, which to me means pick a polish that is freakin' ugly! Right off the bat I knew which one I was picking for today....China Glaze Trendsetter.

China Glaze Trendsetter is one of those ugly, yet super unique polishes that I love to hate and hate to love. It's an olive green mixed with mustard yellow and some beautiful shimmer. Before buying this polish I went back and forth with whether or not I would ever wear this or if I could even pull this off on my skin tone. The selling point for me was that it was on the clearance rack at Sally's for $1.99. This has sat in my China Glaze drawer untried for months.

As quickly as I put this polish on is as quickly as I took it off. I felt like this just didn't work on me. The shimmer is gorgeous, but the color itself reminds me of the mushed peas in Gerber baby food. The photos below show three coats of Trendsetter with no top coat....

Yikes! I can assure you that this looks even worse in person on me  :0X

Twinsie Tuesday - Best Deal Polish

Good Morning! This week's theme is our best deal polish. Coincidentally, I went to Walgreens Sunday evening and I picked up ten of the Sinful Colors polishes that are on sale this week for $0.99. How can you beat a polish for $0.99? You can't even get a pack of Trident for that price anymore.

One of the polishes I picked up was Unicorn, a light yellow creme. This one only be worth $0.99 though as I had some issues with application. The first coat was streaky and while the second one seemed to even it out, it began to bubble like crazy. You can see the bubbling in the photos and this wasn't even half as bad as what it turned out to be. I didn't even attempt a third coat. I also found that this particular polish from Sinful isn't self leveling. I have a few other Sinful polishes that had better formula than this.

So while this may not be my "best" polish, it's my best deal polish....

Womp Womp. In an attempt to hide the bubbles I threw a coat of Icing Pre Game over it. An hour into work, this happen...

Not a good quality photo, but you get the idea. By 11am I had lost three entire nails in sheets. It had bubbled so much that the underside of the polish that came off my nails looked like it had been poked about a hundred times.

Fly-Ceratops by Two Birds One Store

Good Morning and happy Monday. I hope that everyone had a good weekend. I haven't received nail mail in a few weeks, but I placed an order with Sarah from See Sarah Swatch for some franken minis from her Etsy shop, Two Birds One Store. When she premiered swatches of her Matte About Summer collection in one of her blog posts I knew I had to order. I got the package on Saturday and as soon as I opened the package I thought....OH EM GEE!

I ordered Fly-Ceratops and Summertime Girls from her new collection. I had a hard time deciding which to try first, but I closed my eyes and went with Fly-Ceratops. Fly-Ceratops is made up of three different color and size glitter pieces. We've got tiny yellow, larger blue and even larger black glitter in a clear base. It's made up of square glitter, which I really love. I used three coats, which I found easy to apply. I topped it off with a coat of Seche Vite and walked around with this awesomeness Sunday afternoon....

I'm really loving this. The cashier at Sally's even commented on my nails. I tried to explain it was an indie polish from Etsy and she looked at me like I had 10 heads. Come on Sally girls! lol

You can pick this up from Sarah's Etsy store, Two Birds One Store once she gets back. She's out of town until mid-August but is planning a large restock at that time. You can go to Etsy and sign up to be notified once she returns. I'm already trying to decide which I'm going to order next.

Nail-Venturous Humble Bee

Good Morning all! Happy Monday! I hope everyone has a good day today, I know it's hard to transition from weekend to work day. Today I have another indie swatch for you, Humble Bee by Nail-Venturous. Humble Bee was a huge lemming of mine, and when NVL opened shop on Etsy I was beyond excited when I got it in my cart.

Humble Bee has small yellow and black matte glitter pieces in a clear base. I wanted to love this, but it gave me extreme lobster hands in person. As soon as I put it on I could tell it was clashing with my skintone. I'm around NC20/NC25 and have some redness in my hands. Formula was ok, it was a little thick but spreadable. For the swatches below I used three coats of Humble Bee and topped it off with Seche Vite.

Did anyone catch the escapee blue glitter on my ring finger? It was randomly in the polish lol. My mother is constantly saying I have too many polishes, but when she saw this one she instantly said she thought it was neat. Of course she compliments one that doesn't totally work for me, haha.  

Nail-Venturous is currently closed on Etsy for what is described as a long break. You can still purchase this from Ninja Polish though. :)

Twinsie Tuesday: Go To Polish (In This Case....Nail Venturous Floam!!)

Well helloooo :)  Today's Twinsie Tuesday topic is our go to polish/mani. The first polish that came to mind was OPI Lincoln Park After Dark. I spent an entire winter a few years back wearing LPAD. I think I have about 5-6 bottles of LPAD, and about 3 bottles of Lincoln Park After Midnight in my stash. I then realized that I can't call it my go to mani, since I haven't worn it in about a year. I have so many untried that I am trying to get to, that I sometimes feel guilty going back to some of my older polishes.

I decided to pick a polish I'm currently obsessed with, since it's my current go to mani. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I recently got Nail Venturous Floam from NinjaPolish.com. Since I got this polish in the mail about two weeks ago, I have worn this three times! Everytime it chipped I would redo the nail. I finally changed my mani last night. Floam is pure amazing in a nail polish bottle. It's tiny tiny green, blue and yellow glitter particles in a clear base.  It dries pretty matte. Even with a coat of Seche Vite it didn't give off the normal shine and it would. Formula is a little thick but not difficult to work with, you just have to go a little slower. It was fully opaque in two coats.

You can get Floam from www.NinjaPolish.com. Nail Venturous also has an Etsy shop, but she is currently closed. From what I've read you have to do quite a bit of stalking to get your hands on a bottle too. (I'm dying to get my hands on a bottle of Humble Bee!!)

Twinsie Tuesday: Jelly Sandwich

Good Morning! It's that special day of the week again, it's Twinsie Tuesday! When I originally looked at the schedule for this week I saw jelly sandwich as the theme and though to myself this would be a disaster. I had only tried one jelly sandwich before, using Essie Marshmallow and it was a FAIL. Besides Marshmallow, I only own 2 other jelly polishes due to the fact I had sold/swapped the rest of them. I had Revlon Royal to work with (too dark to sandwich anything) and Deborah Lippmann Yellow Brick Road. I remember seeing swatches of a jelly sandwich featuring Yellow Brick Road on Goose's Glitter and I was blooooown away. Deborah Lippmann's Yellow Brick Road was in a pile of polishes I was going to sell/swap, so I decided to give it another chance before I had to try and franken a jelly. I originally tried to sandwich DL YBR with Lynnderella's Connect the Dots but the white didn't stand out enough, in my opinion. I layered two coats of DL YBR and a coat of Jordana Sequins and came out with this......

 

To complete my jelly sandwich I added another coat of DL YBR and voila!

Visible nail line and all, DL YBR can keep it's home in my helmer. I may put Essie Marshmallow in the swap/sell drawer instead lol.

On a side note, my no/low-buy was going so good and I was getting really proud of myself. I've been saving my dollars for the Lynnderella polishes that I want, and I've probably only purchased about 10 polishes in the last month (down from the 400-500 I bought in 2011 lol). Color Club Get Your Le-Mon & The Lime Starts Here

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone is having a good weekend so far. I don't want it to end. I spent yesterday looking for some new nail polish (what happen to my no-buy?) and I found a pleasant surprise. Over at Spaz&Squee, she reviewed three holographic polishes from The Face Shop, and I had to have them. I went to The Face Shop in Flushing, where they only had the red polish, but I jumped on it. I paid $8.00 for the bottle. I'm so excited, and I'm thinking of calling The Face Shop in Manhattan to see if they have the others before I drive out there. I walked around Flushing for a little while, hoping to find more Korean polishes....and I found a display of SCANDAL nail polish! I first saw Scandal on Nailderella's blog and I fell in love with Mirage Pink, which I was able to score for $6.99. I'm so excited to wear it!

Other than that, today I have two swatches from Color Club's Wicked Sweet Collection. I'm showing both at one time because I want to reswatch Get Your Lem-On over white. I found the Wicked Sweet Collection in Ross (Lawrenceville, NJ) for $7.99. They are scented neon polishes and the colors are great!

First up is Get Your Le-Mon:

Get Your Le-Mon is basically highlighter yellow, and I love it! This is three coats on it's own. I I plan on swatching this over white, to see if the color pops more. Formula was easy to work with, but obviously sheer. When I first started swatching these I forgot they were scented. This one does smell similar to lemons.

Next up is The Lime Starts Here:



The Lime Starts Here  is a great lime green. This one is obviously scented like limes. Formula was ok, this is three coats on it's own. It look pretty streaky in the photos, if I were to wear it again I would most likely try it over white as well.

I hate how the nails on my non-dominant hand are SO much worse than the nails on my dominant hand. On my left hand my nails always break and split! I would swatch my dominant hand all of the time, but as you can see my pinky likes to hide lol.

OPI Cabana Banana

Good Morning! Today's post is all about OPI Cabana Banana from their Summer Splash collection of 2004. I was at a supply store when the owners young daughter brought over a basket of black label HTFs. I wasn't really in love with any of them, but I felt bad turning her down so I picked up Cabana Banana, Tangerini Bikini (tomorrow's post) and Paris Couture For Sure top coat. I didn't want to use Cabana Banana at all. I hated it. I wanted to do a quick swatch of it and be done. Surprise, Surprise, I kind of like it LOL.

Cabana Banana is a bright yellow polish with subtle shimmer. How cute is the name? The only downside of this polish is that it is so sheer. The formula is on the runny side, and after 3 coats you can still see my VNL.
