OPI Standing Room Only Silver

Happy Friday!! I found three little treasures at my nail supply store recently. I had sold my bottles of OPI Coral Reef and Crim-Sun when my dog got sick for the extra funds. Those were the only polishes I kept thinking about purchasing again. I walked into the nail supply I recently and there were the two bottles. It was meant to be! I turned around and found another gem sitting on the shelf behind it - OPI Standing Room Only Silver.

OPI Standing Room Only Silver is a silver holographic polish. I've heard so much about this polish, that I was so overjoyed. When I brought it up to the register I was crossing my fingers that they didn't know what it really goes for. And they didn't....$5 and in my bag it went! The photos below show 3 coats of OPI Standing Room Only Silver topped with Seche Vite....

I'm going to try layering this polish next time. I'm trying to decide what I should layer it over. Since it's black label, it's super stinky. The formula was sheer and a little thin, but it built up pretty well.

China Glaze DV8

Good Morning and happy Monday! I hope everyone had a good weekend. Today I've got one of the older, discontinued polishes from the OMG Collection by China Glaze. I missed out on these when they originally came out, but after seeing them at a salon and falling in love I ended up buying most of them on Ebay.

DV8 is a bright teal polish with holo! I love holo. The formula on this one was so-so, I had a bit of a hard time getting it to be 100% smooth. You can tell in some of my photos that it's not the smoothest even after top coat. The first time I wore this I was left unimpressed. Even this time, I'm not sure I'm in love. I love teals, but this teal didn't seem to work too great for my skintone. Outdoors in direct sunlight it definitely leans more blue than green as far as teals go. Please excuse the chip on my ring finger as well. My nails were growing so well with Nailtek 2 and they've started to split again :(

For the photos below I used two coats of DV8 and a coat of Seche Vite.

Twinsie Tuesday - Nude Polish (China Glaze FYI)

Good morning ladies! Today's Twinsie Tuesday post is all about a nude polish. I don't have a lot of nude polishes. I haven't found the perfect nude polish for my skin tone, but the one I own that I like most is a nude holographic. (I definitely have a thing for holos lol)

China Glaze FYI is the nude linear holographic from the OMG Collection. When I originally bought this polish I wasn't in love with it. It looked a little boring and plain, but I couldn't leave it behind because # 1 it's holographic, # 2 it's hard to find. When I first put this polish on a few months back I was really impressed.

Besides being nude this polish isn't boring. It's complimentary to my skin tone and the formula is like butter. My swatches show two easy coats of FYI. This is more holographic in person than shown in my photos. My camera had a hard time picking up the holo in this polish.

I apologize for the sea of cuticle oil in these swatches. I thought I massaged it in fully.....whoops!

China Glaze Visit Me in Prism

Hey everyone! I hope everyone had a good Easter or a good start to Passover, whichever you celebrate! I don't have many family members left in New York anymore so I just had dinner with my immediate family at my house. Then....except for laundry, I literally did nothing for the rest of the night lol. I actually had naked nails for Easter  :0/

Today I have one of my long time lemmings for you, China Glaze's Visit Me in Prism from the Kaleidoscope collection. Besides the amazing fact that it is a holographic, how fun is the name? It gives this polish a bad girl vibe. Visit Me in Prism is a very pale lilac holo, but it leans pretty silver. If I wasn't familiar with the collection I would have thought this was just silver. Nonetheless, it's still very pretty. I actually scored a new bottle of this off of a blog sale for around $12 which is a steal considering what it's going for on Ebay. Formula was easy to work with. I wore this mani at least a month ago (that's how far behind I am) and I can't remember if this is two or three coats. Either way, it's topped off with a coat of Seche Vite.

Since I didn't have anything fun on my nails this Easter, I decided to wear a pastel to start off the week. I'm rocking OPI Gargantuan Green Grape for the next day or so. My nails still hate me and I had to nubbinize them again. :::sigh:::

Twinsie Tuesday: Discontinued Polish (OPI My Auntie Drinks Chianti)

 

Good morning everyone! Today we have another Twinsie Tuesday post. Before I begin, I apologize that my swatches today aren't the best. My nails are in such bad shape and nothing is really helping them. No matter what I do they are breaking and after walking around with 6 patched nails I decided to file them down and start from scratch. I completely forgot that I didn't have any 'discontinued' swatches in my back log of photos, so my apologies for the nubbins :0/

Today's Twinsie Tuesday topic was a discontinued polish. During my free for all polish spree last year, I bought almost anything I could find with a black label (no joke). I wanted to pick a polish that had been discontinued for quite some time for today's post, so I chose My Auntie Drinks Chianti from the Italian Collection. The Italian Collection was released in Spring 2001, so this is just about 11 years old. I found this not too long ago in a small beauty supply store up the road from my grandmother's house.

My Auntie Drinks Chianti is a hard color to describe. Each time I look at down at my nails it seems to have morphed into another shade. When I first put this on it looked very rose/mauve to me. After a few minutes it looked more pink, and then I started seeing purple and then raspberry. In the bottle it reminded me a little of OPI Dim Sum Plum, but with a subtle shimmer. When not in direct lighting it seems to be a shade darker than what my photos show.  Formula was easy to work with and this was opaque in two easy coats. It also has the older OPI brush, which I miss. Overall, it's nice...but I don't think it's a me color. I've had it on for about six hours now and I'm going back and forth between liking and not liking this. Right now I can't see myself wearing this for a second day. I'm without a doubt impressed that after 11 years the formula on this was like new. I didn't have to add a single drop of thinner to this at all. There seemed to be some evaporation within the bottle but that's nothing! Right now, My Auntie Drinks Chianti appears to be sold only on Ebay. It is currently retailing between $15.99-$30.99.

Enough talking....on to the swatches:

Thoughts? Am I being too hard on this polish? Part of me wants to rename this My Older Auntie Drinks Chianti, due to the fact that it seems too mature for my liking. The rose/mauve is not me. While I'm still in my 20's I'd like to keep it as funky as possible lol. I originally wanted to swatch OPI Santiago Sangria, but I misplaced it and found it once it was too late. Oh well.

OPI La Boheme - Revisited

Good morning girls! I had an amazing find over the weekend, a bottle of OPI La Boheme! My heart literally started to race and I started to panic as I went through boxes of nail polish, checking to see if I could find additional bottles. I have a bottle of La Boheme in which I found on a dusty hunt a few months back, but as I have read there are two versions. The bottle I found on Saturday was the second version, and the better one (IMO). A high duochrome radiated through the bottle, even in dim lighting. I asked the shop owners if they had anymore, and they looked at me as if I was crazy. I didn't want to tip them off in regards to how amazing of a find this was (they have told me 'no' to polishes before - and they are a supply store) so I kept my composure.

I got home and compared the bottles. The shimmery red is the same, but the color shift on my newer bottle is definitely more noticeable. In the bottle, you see a golden/rusty change and some green. I couldn't see the green on my nails, but am eventually going to try layering it over black, which I have read helps.
Formula was easy to work with, but since this is from 2003 it's not 3-free. The photos below show 2 coats of La Boheme and a coat of Seche Vite.

OPI Mad As A Hatter

Happy Friday! I can't believe tomorrow is New Years Eve already. Has everyone picked out a mani? I'm thinking of doing something silver, and of course glitter. I haven't fully decided because I have HITS Zeus on right now and I'm not really ready to remove it haha. Since I have such nubbins, I'm not removing my polish daily like I was, so bare with me while my nails grow back and get healthy. I have some older swatches, but I'm not really in love with them, if you get what I mean.

For today's post I have OPI MAAH aka Mad As A Hatter. Does this need an introduction? I don't think so. It's increasingly hard to find. Also increasing is the price of this polish. I had glitterphobia when this polish originally came out, and soon after realized I made a mistake not buying it. I picked this up on Ebay for around $38 (including shipping). It's the most I've spent on a polish, but I worried if I waited any longer if I would miss out forever.

MAAH is pure amazingness in a bottle. I fell in love with this over, and over, and over again. Each time I looked at my nails I was impressed. The formula was easy to work with and it was completely opaque in 3 coats. The wear on MAAH is where the issue lies. I painted my nails late on a Thursday night, and went out with my bff on Friday night. Somewhere around dinner I noticed I was missing an entire nail, and that I had quite a few large chips. Like some other glitters, when this comes off it comes off in large chunks or in entire sheets.

China Glaze No Way Jose

Happy Monday!! Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. I won nothing at the casino on Saturday (except free dinner coupons from a random stranger which saved us $38.00) and yesterday I just hung around and went shopping, then came home and caught up on my blogs. I just want to let everyone know, I am reading your blog posts - but I am unable to comment (for about a week now). It keeps telling me I'm not authorized to view pages :::shakes head at technology:::

Anyways, today I have a long time lemming for you!! This is China Glaze's No Way Jose!!! My bestie picked this one up for my birthday, and I was beyond shocked. No Way Jose is a gorgeous lavender purple with silver shimmer. It's discontinued but still available on Ebay. I love this polish!!

OPI At Your Quebec and Call

I was recently in Nordstrom when I swatched Chanel's Peridot and fell in love. Luckily for my wallet, they were sold out. (I also fell in love with Graphite, also sold out). I ran around the mall like a maniac and it was sold out everywhere I went.

I then remembered that I had OPI At Your Quebec and Call at home. It was a long time lemming that I had to have, I bought it online and never used it. I feel guilt about buying things and not using them, so this was constantly in the back of my mind. I thought this would fill my void for Peridot, but as expected it's not a dupe.

At Your Quebec and Call is from the Canadian collection of 2004. It's a black label and a little more HTF, but you can score it on Victoria's Nail Supply for a very reasonable price. At Your Quebec and call is a medium green with olive/golden shimmer. It can be a bit brush strokey if you aren't careful.  Since it's a black label, this polish is a little more on the thin side.

China Glaze Fortune Teller

Hello! Happy Monday all. Today I finally have my Halloween mani up for post. Halloween feels like it was ages ago! I sported China Glaze Fortune Teller on Halloween. This was a long time lemming that my friend picked up for me. As far as I know you can't get it on nail supply websites, but it's still available on Ebay.

Fortune Teller is small round and large hex orange glitter in a black base. The base was a little sheer, but built up in three coats. The formula was easy to work with and the glitter didn't drag.

My Economy Ticket - (My Private Jet Franken)

Happy Friiiiday! It's the best day of the week-days! Weeee! 5:30pm today I will be running from my desk to my car, and not thinking about work until Monday morning.

Today I'm showing you my My Private Jet franken. My Private Jet is another polish we all know. I have a dud bottle, and I've been lemming the real thing. I've been watching them sell on Ebay for $50-$75 and I've been thinking about it....but I just couldn't. Then I read on MUA that some girls were buying the "Original MPJ holo", and they turned out to be just duds with SpectraFlair added to them! I don't know how people can do things like that :::shaking my head:::

So, I picked up an extra bottle of DS Original and decided to franken it. I checked numerous blogs, and they also suggest you can use DS Sapphire. I used 1/4 of OPI Black Onyx and 3/4 DS Original. In the bottle photo it looks like only half, but the DS seemed to push the Black Onyx to the sides of the bottle.

Due to the fact that I'm practically broke, I decided to make this comical and call it 'My Economy Ticket'...because we all know the closest I will ever get to a private jet is an airport parking lot LOL.

It's not exact, I'm not even sure if it's close....but it's mine :)
This is NOT my idea, I'm not even sure where it originated, but they are a genius.
