NYX Girls Dorothy

Helllllooooo there :)  Today I have only 1 swatch for you, but I'm not happy with the photos I have so I'm just going to share the only one I'm happy with. It's NYX Girls Dorothy, which is said to be a dupe of Deborah Lippmann's Ruby Red Slippers. There's nothing more that I love then finding a dupe for an expensive polish.

NYX Girls Dorothy has small round and larger hex red glitter in a charcoal/black polish. I needed three coats to get the base to the deep base shown here. The formula was tricky, but nothing terrible.

The swatch below is three coats of Dorothy and one coat of Seche Vite.

Comparison Post: NYX Girls 'Sea of Cortez' vs Orly's 'Halley's Comet' vs OPI 'Catch Me In Your Net'

Happy Monday! (let's try to make the best of it lol).

Sorry for the lack of post yesterday, I thought I had scheduled one and didn't realize until late yesterday afternoon I hadn't. Today I have a comparison post for you. When I was wearing NYX Girls 'Sea of Cortez' I thought it was another dupe. Guess what, it's NOT! Yay! It's similar but not a dupe.

NYX Girls 'Sea of Cortez' vs Orly's 'Halley's Comet' vs OPI 'Catch Me In Your Net'

Index: Sea of Cortez. Middle" CMIYN. Ring: Halley's Comet. Pinky: CMIYN

Sorry for the lack of clean up! Swatching without my contacts in isn't a good idea. Also, macro picks up things I don't see in real life.

If you enlarge the photos you can see that NYX Girls 'Sea of Cortez' has gold shimmer running through it, where the shimmer in OPI 'CMIYN' and Orly 'Halley's Comet' is teal. 'CMIYN' and 'HC' are definitely dupes though and I needed 3 coats of each of those, and only 2 coats of 'Sea of Cortez'.

Do I necessarily need all three? Absolutely not. Though I do feel better knowing that I only have 2 dupes, not 3.  :)

NYX Girls 'Shimmer'

Today I have NYX Girls 'Shimmer' for you. There is no better way to describe this polish than it's name. It's jam packed with shimmer.

When I picked this up it looked a little like OPI's 'Rally Pretty Pink' under the lighting in the store. When I got it home I realized it's nothing like 'Rally Pretty Pink'. A little disappointing, but it's still nice. It looked a little more pink in the store (as well as in the bottle), where as when I got it home it's a little more of a rose gold color.

The photos below are two coats of 'Shimmer' with no top coat.

NYX Girls 'Turks & Caicos'

Today I have 'Turks & Caicos' by NYX Girls. I found this one at a local flea market for $1.99. Score! I love good cheap polish. NYX Girls has impressed me, especially at $1.99. Since I've been buying from mostly independant beauty supply stores lately and not Ulta I enjoy my savings. Savings = more polish purchases :)

'Turks & Caicos' is a medium blue jelly with pieces of holographic glitter. It's much darker in the bottle than what I was able to get on my nail. It also leans a little more purple than I expected. I would consider OPI's 'Last Friday Night' a close cousin to this polish.

The photos below are three coats of 'Turks & Caicos' with no top coat.
I smudged my middle nail and thought I did a good job touching it up, but clearly there is an area that's not the same as the others lol. Formula was ok, a little goopy but I may have been trying to rush it and build the color too quickly.

NYX Girls 'Sea Of Cortez'

Ladies, here is another NYX Girls polish that knocked my socks off. It's NYX Girls 'Sea of Cortez'. It has the same great shimmer as NYX Girls 'Maui Sunrise' as seen in the last post.

'Sea of Cortez' is a color that I want to jump into. I can't get enough of this and it's definitely made it into my top 20 polishes. It's a gorgeous teal polish with gold and light green/blue shimmer. It's hard to describe and these pictures don't do it justice.

Have a weakness for teal polish? Add this to your collection. You will not be disappointed!!!

The photos below are two coats of 'Sea of Cortez' with no top coat.

NYX Girls 'Maui Sunrise'

Maui WOWie! The swatches of today's post are NYX Girls 'Maui Sunrise'. I found a supply store in my local flea market that has a HUGE display of NYX Girls. It's like a dream come true. This polish? Amazing.

The formula here is excellent. Smooth and easy to control. It's a bright pink with gold shimmer. In the bottle it reminded me of OPI 'Senorita Bonita' or China Glaze 'Strawberry Fields' but in person this isn't a dupe. It's definitely different. I'm really loving this. I just did a quick swatch for these photos but I can't wait to wear this again.

The photos below are two coats of 'Maui Sunrise' and no top coat.

NYX Girls 'Algae' with 'Aqua Glitter' and 'Maven'

A few weeks ago I picked up two NYX Girl glitter polishes at XSRE in Lawrence, NY (they have 3 NY locations and 1 in NJ). I found 'Aqua Glitter' and 'Maven'. The bases are close in color but the glitter itself is different enough to own both.

The photos below are one coat of 'Aqua Glitter' and 'Maven' over my existing 'Algae' mani, which I thought would be the perfect base. Alone 'Aqua Glitter' and 'Maven' are a little to sheer for my liking.

Since I started this blog I've been painting my nails every day and taking photos, and making sure I'm trying to update the posts every other day. I figured a great way to swatch more would be to use the layering polishes I have over existing manis. So here we go....

NYX Girls 'Maven' vs. 'Aqua Glitter'

NYX Girls 'Algae'

I purchased NYX Girl's 'Algae' after seeing swatches on another blog and falling in love. When I think of algae, I think of something gross and dirty. This color is beautiful. It's a teal polish which in my opinion leans more blue than green. It has a creme finish and it's really easy to work with.

I've read on other blogs that this is a dupe for Misa's 'Dirty Sexy Money' which I do not own but have wanted for quite some time. I don't own 'DSM' to do a swatch comparison, but this has definitely squashed the need for 'DSM' as far as I'm concerned.

The photos below are 2 coats of 'Algae' and a coat of Seche Vite.

NYX Girls 'Algae'.  Helllllooooo beautiful.
